Defects and remedial measures after heat treatment of stainless steel castings

For box andtrolley-type resistance furnace plates, high temperature tempering should be performed before use, and the temperature should be controlled above 950 degrees as much as possible. The purpose of this is to eliminate the internal stress in the casting process. In addition, during the use of the furnace board, the castings   must be placed evenly, they cannot be stacked in a certain local position, otherwise it will cause the furnace board to be uneven during the heat dissipation process duringthe heating process, which is likely to cause the furnace board to deform and crack, and the service life of the furnace floor will be reduced.


The manufacture of stainless steel castings is accomplished by smelting, casting, and heat treatment. The casting steel should be melted by induction furnace, electricarc furnace, ladle refining furnace, or other melting methods that meet the requirements. In the casting process, if there is no special requirement from the purchaser, it shall be determined by the supplier. In case of defect removal and repair welding, we shall implement the following regulations:


1. The castings should not be unpacked until it`s cooled to a certain temperature. Only after softening and annealing, the martensitic steel could be removed the visible defects on the surface.


2. When removing defects, the minimum preheating temperature of the casting should be carried out as specified.


3. Casting defects are allowed to be repaired by welding, and all defects must be removed before welding to expose the dense metal surface.


4. Repair welding should be carried out with the same or similar electrode as the casting material.


5. When the same material martensitic electrode is used for repair welding, generally after the softening annealing, the defects and remedies that occur after the stainless steel casting is heat treated before the final heat treatment, unless otherwise specified, the martensite electrode should be eliminated after welding stress treatment.


6. The chromium,manganese and nitrogen steel castings that require intergranular corrosiont endency experiment or impact toughness experiment or both should be solution treated after repair welding.
